If we want to see and love the city the way God does, then we need to get up close and personal. The “30,000 foot” perspective comes into focus the more we assemble snapshots and stories from the various communities that together make up Vancouver and (to quote the Nicene Creed) the “one holy catholic and apostolic Church” in it. We also need to be sure we aren’t just looking in the obvious places or talking only to our usual crowd.
So we launched the Consultation with a series of focus groups in January 2016 based on geography, sorting the city’s 23 official neighbourhoods into 10 areas based on similar demographics as well as the density of congregations and ministries (areas 5 and 6 were subsequently combined).
